Dy-Pila, Poro-Lopez top Alta Vista’s View 2023

CEBU, Philippines —  The tandem of former pro Mark Anthony Dy and Rolando Pila bagged the best gross honors in the just-concluded The View Invitational 2023, the annual member-guest tournament of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City.

Rene Poro and partner Lambert Lopez won the net honors of the four-day, 36-hole tournament that used the Modified Stableford Scoring System.

Dy fired rounds of three-under-par 39 and one-under-par 37 while Pila made even-par 36 and one-over 35 points. The team ran away with the title with an aggregate of 147 points on rounds of 75 and 72.

Poro shot 39 and 42 net points while Lopez made 28 and 30 for a two-day aggregate of 139 points (67-72). They won the overall title after edging the teams of Jun Zambo and Dennis de Guzman and Anwar Abarintos and Washinbgton Lim in the countback.

Zambo and de Guzman took home the Division 1 title with their 139 (69-70). Zambo, the club’s senior champion, scored rounds of 30 and 32 points while de Guzman made 39 and 39.

First runner-up for Division 1 was the team of policeman brothers Chuck (37-27) and Pio (38-36) Barandog with an aggregate of 138 points. Second runner-up was the duo of Keith Siao (37-38) and Thomas Castillo (27-35) with a total of 137 edging Emir Abutazil and Edwardson Chiu in the countback.

Abarintos and Lim had a slow start where they made only 33 and 30 points respectively on the first day. On the second round they fired 76 points with Abarintos making 36 and Lim shooting 40 to claim the Division 2 title.

First runner-up for Division 2 was the team of Glenn Sebastian (35-37) and RaphiLomondaya (27-36) with an aggregate of 135 points. Second runner-up was the team of Kendrick Soledad (31-29) and Ferdinand Sembrano (35-40) also with 135.

Jett Calderon, a third generation member of the club, and partner Eugene Andales bagged the Division 3 title. Calderon, whose grandfather and father have also been members of the club, fired rounds of 35 and 38 while Andales made 36 and 28 for a total of 137 points.

First runner-up for the third group was the team of BoyetSuezo (28-34) and John Enguerra (32-39) with 133 points. Second runner-up honors went to HaronYbañez (36-28) and David Lim III (20-38) with a total of 122 points.

Seniors Division

MarlouCugtas and Elvis Jequinto bagged the best gross honors for the age category where the total age of the team members must be at least 120 years and no player is below 55 years old.

Cugtas, a lawyer, fired rounds of 29 and 34 while Jequinto, a retired Air Force officer, made 23 and 35. Their aggregate gross score was 121 points.

The best net honors for this group went to LoloySabuga (39-39) and his partner Dr. Gene Matiga (30-40) with 148 points.

First runner-up was the tandem of Richard Lim (35-41) and Edward Uy (29-28) with 133 while second runner-up was the duo of Rolando Alberto (33-27) and Noel Abad (34-39) also with 133.
