Karate champ turned boxer topbills VBG Pagsabungan slugfest
CEBU, Philippines — AJ Ala Villamor, a karate champion who is now charting a career path as a boxer, will headline a 14-bout amateur boxing show this Sunday, March 19, at the Villamor Boxing Gym (VBG) in Barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City.
Supported by PMI Bohol Boxing Stable, it’s the second fight card for March under VBG’s monthly grassroots program.
AJ, who is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his more illustrious father Edito ‘ALA’ Villamor, will slug it out with Arjun Juario of Babag 2, Lapu-Lapu City in the main event under the 54kg. division.
On the other hand, Jofel Barcoma of Maingit, Toledo City will lock up horns with Jemar Codoy of Hipodromo, Cebu City (56kg), Carl Penedo of Dumaguete City will go up against Steffen Siaton of Babag 2, LLC (53kg), Gio Peresores of Napo, Carcar City will tackle Christian Monilar of Sarok Boxing Gym (52kg), while Justine Balbarino of Pagsabungan will face Jumaril Cataraja of Babag 2, LLC (48kg).
In the other matches, Fredrich Locsin of Riverside, Mandaue will take on Vic Segara of Babag 2, LLC (44kg), Steffen Bernales of Babag 2, LLC will mix it up with Ken Villanueva of Hipodromo (46kg), Ejay Batiancila of Sarok Boxing Gym will clash with Jude Responso of Babag 2, LLC (34kg), while Dave Camillo of Gun-ob, LLC will trade blows with Rodel Tillor of Sarok BG (34kg).
The rest of the slambang event pits Renz Arvin Pepito of Cubacub, Mandaue vs Yancy Estorba of Pagsabungan (46kg), Kent Jalandoni of Canduman vs John Mendoza of Apas, Cebu City (47kg), Lester Tagalog of Sarok BG vs Yumyum Gonzales of Apas (26kg), Charlie Mark Simbajon of Riverside vs Jhunmar Codeniera of Apas (26kg), and Reymund Comendador of Sarok BG vs Darryl Opura of Apas (24kg). — EBV
