Don Bosco Dumaguete clinches SM-NBTC Visayas title

CEBU, Philippines —  The Royal Star Trading-Don Bosco College of Dumaguete crushed Bacolod Tay Tung High School, 95-83, to seize the championship of the SM-NBTC Visayas Qualifying Tournament over the weekend at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Barangay Sawang Calero.

For bagging the crown, Royal Star-Don Bosco will be joining the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles in the National Finals later this year at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Thanks to the explosive performances of Jay Stephen Garupil and big man Matthew James Jucom.

Garupil exploded for 35 points on top of 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals while Jucom added 22 points, nine boards, and three dimes for Royal Star-Don Bosco, who were never threatened after cruising to a comfortable 54-35 lead at halftime.

MJ Hendric Vailoces chipped in 11 markers,10 rebounds, and five assists while Almarlon Winters contributed 10 points, six rebounds and two assists for Royal Star-Don Bosco, who surged ahead by as much as 21 points, 52-31, in the wire-to-wire victory.

Dylan Benedict Despi fired 29 points while Nap Lawrence Aleligay tossed in 23 points in a losing effort for Tay Tung. — EBV
