Robles out to prove worth in toughest challenge yet

CEBU, Philippines — He is used to fighting behind the shadows of his more popular stablemates.

Now, it’s the turn of Berland “The Trigger Man” Robles to shine.

In the toughest test yet of his budding career, Robles (5-0, 2KOs) battles against the dangerous Jerven “Iron Fist” Mama (12-1-1, 7KOs) of General Santos City’s Sanman Gym in the main attraction of “Engkwentro 7” boxing card presented by ARQ Sports Promotions on October 15 at the Consolacion National High School (CNHS) gym in Consolacion, Cebu.

The 22-year-old Robles, who hails from Mananga II in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, said he’s very exited but a bit anxous at the same time seeing action for the first time in a headliner.

“Sagol kulba ug excited ang akong gibati pagkahibalo nako nga main event ko,” Robles gamely admitted.

With that, the unbeaten flyweight prospect from ARQ Stable readies himself for a daunting challenge against Mama, who only lost once in 14 fights so far spiked one draw and seven wins by knockout.

“Nindot kaayo ni nga opportunity para nako mao nga maningkamot gyud ko nga makahatag og nindot nga duwa sa mga lumalantaw,” Robles said.

“Ako sab buhaton tanan kutob sa akong mahimo aron modaog kay niining paagi makabawos ko sa akoang utang kabubut-on sa akong manager, mga coaches ug sa uban pang nagpaluyo niining ARQ Boxing Stable,” Robles continued.

In the other featured bouts, the world-rated OPBF regional titleholders April Jay “Astroboy” Abne (10-1, 5KOs) and John Paul “Angas ng Cebu” Gabunilas ( 8-1, 5KOs) take center stage against separate foes.

Abne, the reigning OPBF Silver flyweight champion who is now ranked No.28 by the World Boxing Council, will slug it out with Ramil Antaran, while the WBC rated No.29 and current OPBF Youth light flyweight king Gabunilas will trade blows with Ronald Alapormina.

The other ARQ brawlers seeing action in the slambang show are Bryan James “Wild Fury” Wild and Bryx “The King” Piala vs Carlo Demicillo Ronvex Capuloy of Big Yellow Stable, respectively; Rodel “The Hulk” Wenceslao vs Edison Berwela of Manila; Ramil “The Sharp” Macado vs Renoel Pael of Leyte;Ian Paul “Assassin” Abne vs Charlie Malupangue of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte; Yerroge “Scientific Boxer” Gura vs Anthony Gibuela of RMC Stable; and John Vincent Pangga vs Vergilio Silvano.
