Paican’s contribution to Cebu motocross fondly remembered

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu media industry has lost one of its shining figures with the passing of esteemed broadcaster Ramil Paican recently.

Well loved by many for his self-effacing and calm demeanor, Paican has undoubtedly left an indelible mark in the world of broadcast journalism for his countless works and accomplishments both in radio and television.

But unknown to others, Paican also has a heart for sports.

He played a key role at the height of MS Motosuit’s  success in Cebu motocross scene over a decade ago.

And Lou Ornopia, who is widely recognized as the “Godfather of Cebu motocross”, fondly remembered Paican for that with a deep sense of gratitude.

Ornopia recalled that with the help of Paican, they were able to establish the first ever Motocross TV in the Philippines back in 2008.

“Natayming nga maoy pagkusog ug pagsikat sa akong motocross series sa dihang nagkaila mi,” said Ornopia, who was once honored as “Sportsman of the Year” by the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC).

“Amo dayong naumol ang MS Motocross TV, ang1st motocross TV sa Philippines. Si sir Ramil maoy among executive producer samtang ako isip tag-iya mao pud ang production manager,” added the current councilor of the municipality San Remigio in northern Cebu.

Aside from CCTN Cebu of Dodong Limchua, MS Motosuit’s highly entertaining motocross show was also aired over “Sports Unlimited” of ABS-CBN Studio 23 for a period of four years.

“Mao to ang mabungahon namong mga panahon sa motocross industry. Magpabilin kining tanan sa akong panomduman uban ang mapasalamaton nga dughan,” Ornopia said. “Maayong pagpanaw ngadto sa laing kalibutan sir Ramil. Hangtud sa sunod natong panagkita.” — EBV
