Cebu Landmasters 2003 consummates 8-0 sweep in SHAABAA tournament

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Landmasters Batch 2003 mauled Casino Ethyl Alcohol Batch 2010, 83-61, to complete an eight-game elimination round sweep in Division B of the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 25 last Wednesday night at the Magis Eagles Arena in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

Carlo Alerta nailed 17 points, Mocrief Rogado scattered 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals while Justin Huang, Wilmer Ong and RJ Abalos scored 10 apiece for Batch 2003, which is the second team to score a clean 8-0 sweep after the Asian Orthopedics Batch 2014 in Division C.

In Division A games, the Magis Medical Fund Batch 1997 logged its sixth straight victory at the expense of Vivant Corenergy Batch 1994, 64-58, while Dynacast Batch 2001 obliterated Speed Demon Batch 1996, 105-56, behind a total team effort.

Roderick Mangubat scattered 20 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Mark Sy and Walter Ong connived for 25 points and 11 rebounds as Batch 1997 leaped to solo second with a 6-2 win-loss record.

Mark Hing and Carlo Ismael Villarica led six players in double figures for Batch 2001, which joined AutoLAB Batch 1999  at third place with identical 5-2 slates.

Hing finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds and two assists while Villarica added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Jason Arquisola and Madhoor Sandeep Naidu combined for 22 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists while John Paul Cabrera and Erwin Ngo chipped in 10 markers each for Batch 2001.

In Division C, Maverick Suarez came up with a massive double-double show of 32 points and 18 rebounds as  Carampatana Food, Inc. Batch 2012 dumped Batch 2019, 96-79, to lock the No.2 spot with a 7-1 card. Suarez drew support from Lorenzo Carampatana and Alexter Dan Tecson who dished out 25 points in between them. — EBV
