Aroo! KEVLO boss finds fulfillment in joining Spartan’s elite “Trifecta Tribe”

CEBU, Philippines — For Cebuano multi-sport enthusiast Mark Philip Geniston, age is just a number.

With that positive mindset, he keeps on scaling greater heights even in a grueling race that requires not only physical endurance and strength but also mental toughness.

Just recently, Geniston ticked one item off his bucket list when he officially joined Spartan’s elite “Trifecta Tribe” after conquering the punishing Beast 21-kilometer plus 30 obstacles category of the Spartan 2022 SEA Regional Series last September 24 in Vermosa, Cavite.

Not only that, the founder and CEO of KEVLO Skin Clinic also placed sixth in his age group, quite a feat for someone who is nearing the golden age of his life.

“Actually, this is my second Spartan Beast race,” shared the 48-year-old Geniston, who is also a basketball player and triathlete. “But this by far is the toughest, most demanding physical and mental challenge I experienced.”

The Spartan Trifecta is a badge of honor. To become a member of the Trifecta Tribe, athletes must finish three of Spartan’s signature obstacle races - the Sprint, Super and Beast - in a single season.

Achieving such distinct honor is very gratifying for Geniston. It gives the pride of Liloan, Cebu a deep sense of fulfillment.

“It’s very fulfilling. Daghan maka-join sa Spartan pero one race ra, dili na mo-continue sa uban na race. Not everyone can get the Trifecta,” said Geniston, who endured two dislocated shoulders and a hamstring tear before accomplishing his tough Spartan mission.

But more than the personal glory he attained, Geniston uses his athletic endeavor as a platform to inspire people to take up sports and nurture a healthy lifestyle despite their very busy schedules.

“I want to encourage everyone nga kaya ra gyud kaayo nato nga ma-fit ta bisa’g unsa ta ka busy,” said Geniston. “As for me, I think this will be my last Spartan race. I will concentrate next on my training na para sa Ironman.” — EBV
