CEBU, Philippines —  A Kenyan national and a veteran footracer from Negros emerged as the biggest winners in the highly successful 7-Eleven Run 2022 at the Cebu Business Park early yesterday morning.

Joseph Mururi, a speed demon from Kenya who is a regular fixture in Cebu running scene, clocked in the fastest time of all - two hours, 41 minutes, and 55 seconds to clinch the men’s open title of the lung-busting 42K category that is the main feature of the first full marathon race in Cebu since the outbreak of the pandemic over two years ago.

Mururi’s compatriot Leonard Kemboi placed second with a time of 2:44:43 while Florendo Lapiz, from Cebu’s Spectrum Runners, wound up third in 2:50:34.

Aldren Montegrande and Joliemar Aquino occupied the fourth and fifth spots with 3:24:31 and 3:47:17 clockings, respectively.

In the women’s division, Stephanie Cadosale from Escalante City, Negros Occidental reigned supreme with the best time of three hours, 34 minutes, and 44 seconds.

“I’ve joined several races in Cebu before but it’s the first time that I won first place,” said the 28-year-old Cadosale.

Evamie Villarin, a multi-titled ultra racer from Dipolog City who is with Spectrum Runners, settled for second in 3:47:57. Kay Razel Cundangan was third in 3:53:41.

Completing the top five finishers in the distaff side were Josephine Rodriguez (4:07:58) and Joy Tandoc (4:07:59).

Another Kenyan in Eric Chepsiror topped the men’s 32K with a time of 1:54:44 followed by Jerome Casinillo (1:58:01) and Maclin Sadia (2:01:12). Rinmarch Gonzaga (2:14:11) and Pedro Canumay (2:24:27) ended fourth and fifth.
