NM Roque rules CEPCA Prexy Jerry chessfest

CEBU, Philippines —  National Master Merben Roque emerged as champion in the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) Prexy Jerry Open Tournament over the weekend at the Barracks Chess Club in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Roque completed the 9-round Swiss system competition with the highest output of 8.0 points to clinch the title. He pocketed P5,000 for his efforts.

Richard Natividad and Anthony Makinano finished with identical 7.5 points but Natividad took the second place honors by virture of a superior tiebreaker.

Both Roque and Natividad are mainstays of the Toledo City Trojans currently seeing action the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) SGM Wesley So Cup.

Cyril Ortega, NM Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Cephas Seguisabal, and NM Arnolito Cadiz occupied the fourth to seventh spots with 7.0 points each.

Rounding up the top 10 were John Dave Lavandero, Jose Fernandez, and NM Jerish John Velarde with 6.5 points. —
