Cebu teams kick off bid in PCAP Open Conference tonight

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebuano contenders Toledo City Trojans, Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors, Cebu City Machers, and Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors will kick off their respective title campaigns in the third and season-ending open conference of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) tonight.

Toledo will parade the same lineup it fielded in during PCAP’s first two conferences bannered by playing co-team owner Atty. Jeah Jean Gacang, team manager Felix Poloyapoy Jr., skipper Bonn Rainauld Tibod, and International Master Rico Mascarinas.

The rest of the Trojans’ roster include brothers Rommel and Ronald Ganzon, Richard Natividad, Jinky Catulay, Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Glicerio Pardillo Jr., Christopher Tubalado, and Redentor Nailon.

On the other hand, the revitalized Naki Warriors of Lapu-Lapu are powered by National Masters Elwin Retanal and Edsel Montoya and Woman IM Bernadette Galas.

Expected to give them the much needed support are Mario Mangubat, Allan Pason, Michael Joseph Pagaran, Brylle Arellano, Anthony Makinano, and Aldwin Daculan.

Cordova is composed of Mark Mangubat, Raymond Abellana, Marian Calimbo, Odilon Badilles, Neil Adrian, Gilig, Romeo Resuera, Ariel Joseph Abellana, Bhell Ortiz, and Christy Cabungcag, while Cebu City is manned by Jimmy Ty, Ariel Potot, Marphine Faith Mangubat, Linky Yap, Ritchie Evardo, Rex Androe Cabuncal, Daniel Lorenzo Minoza,Rafael Perez, Dennis Navales, Kevin Codinera, Duane Borgonia, and Dione Patrick Minoza.

In tonight’s opening matches, the Trojans will go up against the Machers in an all-Cebu showdown, the Naki Warriors will tackle the Mindoro Tamaraws, while the Dagami Warriors will collide with the Surigao Fianchetto Checkmates. — EBV
