NM Enriquez nails back-to-back wins in CEPCA weekly
CEBU, Philippines — For the second time in a row, National Master Rogelio Enriquez, Jr. topped the weekly online tournament of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA).
Enriquez, who gained distinction as the only player to emerge as CEPCA grand champion for an unprecedented four consecutive times during the pre-Covid pandemic era, once again lorded it over in the All-Cepcans category.
A member of the Toledo City Trojans in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP), Enriquez finished the 11-round Swiss system competition with the highest output of 9.5 points to clinch the title.
International Arbiter Linky Yap placed second with 9.0 points while Jimmy Ty Jr., another multi-titled Cepcan who ruled the executive division of the Chooks-to-Go rapid tilt recently, wound up third with 8.5 points.
Jonathan Canque, Rosendo Yamyami, and Maria Kristine Lavandero completed the top six with 6.0 points each.
On the other hand, the Sheila Khan Sepanton claimed the top spot in the Cepcans B/Ladies division with 34 points.
The 29-year-old Sepanton once played Board 1 for the Central Philippine University (CPU) varsity chess team in her hometown Iloilo City during her college days. She is presently residing in Lapu-Lapu City.
Dr. Leo Lofranco ended up second with 24 points followed by Archt. Filemon Kapuno III with 22 points. Jonard Labadan and Nicanor Cuizon make up the top five.
