CEBU, Philippines —  The Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors breezed through the Southern Division semifinals while the Toledo City Trojans crashed out of GM Wesley So Cup, the reinforced conference of the inaugural Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online tournament played last Wednesday night on lichess platform.

Bannered by Israeli Grandmaster Nitzan Steinberg, National Masters Merben Roque and Mario Mangubat, and Woman International Master Bernadette Galas, the Dagami Warriors of PCAP vice chairman Ariel Potot swept the Surigao Fianchetto Checkmates in two games, 13.5-7.5 and 14-7, to barge into the Final Four.

Cordova could reach the South finals if they get past the Negros Kingsmen, who advanced after eliminating the Zamboanga Sultans with the scores of 13.5-7.5 and 12-9 in their two-game duel.

It’s the other way around for Cordova’s fellow Cebu contender Toledo Trojans, who kissed their championship dreams goodbye after being booted out by the mighty Iloilo Kisela Knights with identical scores of 15-6.

The Kisela Knights will face next the All-Filipino Conference South champion Camarines Soaring Eagles for a spot in the division championship. The Soaring Eagles kept their back-to-back title bid alive after terminating the Mindoro Tamaraws, 14.5-6.5 and 17.5-3.5.

Up North, the All-Filipino Conference national champion Laguna Heroes, Antipolo Cobras, Manila Indios Bravos, and Caloocan Loadmanna Knights fill up the four-team semis cast. — EBV
