Cordova nails twinkill anew in Wesley So Cup

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors scored another twin victories in the GM Wesley So Cup, the reinforced conference of the 1st Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online tournament played last Wednesday night on lichess platform.

Bannered by Israeli Grandmaster Nitzan Steinberg, National Masters Merben Roque and Mario Magubat, and Woman International Master Bernadette Galas, the Dagami Warriors of PCAP vice chairman Ariel Potot thrashed the Rizal Batch Towers, 14-7, and then tamed the Quezon City Simba’s Tribe, 16-5.

Cordova thus continued to share the Southern Division lead with the Camarines Soaring Eagles on identical 15-2 win-loss records.

On the other hand, the Toledo City Trojans, powered by France-based Iranian GM Amir Bagheri, IM Rico Mascarinas, and NMs Rogelio Enriquez and Rommel Ganzon, suffered a rare back-to-back losses and dropped to fifth place in the South standings with an 11-6 slate.

The Trojans bowed to the Manila Indios Bravos, 8.5-12.5, before falling prey to the All-Filipino Conference national champion Laguna Heroes, 6.5-14.5.

In other results involving Cebu teams, the NM Elwin Retanal-led Cebu City Machers split their games while the Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors again slumped to a double whammy. 

The Machers (5-12) prevailed over Quezon City, 12.5-8.5, but lost to the Pasig King Pirates, 5-16, while the Naki Warriors (6-11) were dumped by the Caloocan Loadmanna Knights, 5-16, and the Antipolo Cobras, 8-5-12.5. — EBV
