TF, Banat to hold badminton tourney among employees

CEBU, Philippines —  To help encourage an active and healthy well-being of its 100-plus employees in a fun-filled manner, the management of The Freeman and Banat News, both under the banner of the STAR Group of Publications, will be holding a weekly badminton tournament, which will kick off a week from now.

For such worthwhile purpose, The Freeman's General Manager Melando "Bhoy" M. Mendoza has set up a standard badminton court at the MGB Hall of the Star Media Group Building.

"It's not only a form of physical fitness that we highly need at this point of time but also a stress reliever for us as we face the daunting challenges ahead spawned by this pandemic," Mendoza said.

The competitors are coming from TF's four departments (Editorial, Pre-Press, Administration, and Printing), and from its sister publication Banat News as well.

Two categories will be contested:the women's doubles on June 18, and the men's doubles on June 25.

The championship matches will be on July 9, or 10 days before the 102nd anniversary celebration of the country's oldest community-based newspaper.

A total of P10,000 in cash prize will be given away to the winners.

All games will be under the supervision of TF's Human Resource officer Jess Padin assisted by Roger Catana, a company employee who is also a topnotch trainer and champion-maker in badminton. -  EBV
