CEBU, Philippines — Riding on the crest of a four-game winning streak, the MJAS Zenith-Talisay City Aquastars shoot for a a first round sweep when they tackle the Tabogon Voyagers in the Visayas leg of the inaugural Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas Vismin Super Cup season today at the Alcantara Civic Center in Alcantara town southwest of Cebu.

The Aldrin Morante-mentored Aquastars stretched their perfect record to 4-0 after fending off the undermanned Lapu-Lapu side, 84-75, last Saturday.

Led by team captain Paulo Hubalde and Cebuano “Assassin” Patrock Cabahug, the Aquastars will battle Tabogon squad that is coming off an 86-78 spanking of the Dumaguete Warriors. Ace playmakers is again expected to show the way for the Voyagers from northern Cebu.

In the main match, the KCS Mandaue and ARQ Lapu-Lapu are our to break the 2-1 tie that binds them as of the moment.

KCS head coach Mike Reyes said he is wary of ARQ’s highly energetic performance, albeit for a losing cause during their duel against Talisay over the weekend.

Despite playing with a heavily depleted lineup, the Heroes pushed the Aquastars to the hilt behind the incredible plays of seasoned pointguard Jerick Cañada, unheralded Vincent Minguito, and little known forward Chris Regero.

“That was inspired basketball,” said Reyes. — EBV
