CEBU, Philippines —  The Pilipinas Vismin Super Cup officially welcomes Danao City of vice mayor Thomas Mark Durano as the newest team that will be taking part in the inaugural season of the country’s newest professional basketball league set to kick off April 9 in bubble set-up under strict health and safety protocols.

“They (Danao) are still finalizing the lineup and team management but it’s already a done deal 99 percent. Hopefully everything will be sealed next week,” Vismin Super Cup COO Rocky Chan said.

If plans don’t miscarry, Danao will be the fourth Cebu team and fifth overall in the Visayas Division that will be seeing action in Phl’s first pro cage league based in southern provinces.

The others are the ARQ Builders/Lapu-Lapu City Heroes of Jason Arquisola, KCS-Mandaue City Megabytes of Ricky Verdida, MJAS Zenith-Talisay City Aquastars of Sammy Lato, and XUR Homes Realty-Eastern Samar of Jojo Gio Baquilod.

Confirmed entries from the Mindanao Division are Zamboanga City of mayor Beng Climaco, the Pagadian Explorers of Mayor Samuel Co and Rene “Dodong” Pamaran, Team Sindangan of Sonny Diaz, and Zamboanga del Norte.

At the moment, Chan said they are currently in talks with teams from the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Davao that have also expressed their intent to join the cummunity-based league backed up by MDC Sports Inc. as its official ball and Baller as one of its apparel partners.

Chan said they are targeting a maximum of 14 teams, seven per division, for their gound-breaking conference two months from now.

Cebu will host the bubble play for the Visayas Division tentatively at the Cebu Coliseum and Zamboanga for Mindanao.
