CEBU, Philippines —  The Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors chalked up their second victory in the All-Filipino Conference of the inaugural Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online tournament played on lichess platform.

Bannered by National Master Merben Roque and playing team owner Aldwin Daculan, the Naki Warriors edged past the Palawan Queen’s Gambit, the country’s first all-women pro chess team, with the final score of 15.5-5.5.

Also manned by Bryle Arellano, Odilon Badilles, Romeo Resuera, Neil Adrian Gilig, and Cristy Cabungcag, the Naki Warriors forged a three-way tie with fellow Cebu contenders Toledo City Trojans and Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors on identical 2-1 win-loss records.

On the other hand, the Cebu City Machers, composed of the Saudi Arabia-based NM Elwin Retanal, Anthony Makinano, Mark Mangubat, Marphine Faith Mangubat, International Arbiter Lincoln Yap, Cephas Seguisabal, and team manager Eduard Dela Torre continued to struggle, absorbing their third straight loss at the hands of the Zamboanga Sultans, 9-12.

The Machers hope to barge into the win column as they take on the Naki Warriors in an all-Cebuano showdown at 7 p.m. today, and then the Negros Kingsmen two hours later.

Lapu-Lapu also has a two-game schedule tonight as well as Toledo and Cordova.

After Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu will take on the Grandmaster Joey Antonio and NM Cesar Mariano-led Iloilo Kisela Knights, Toledo will go up against Negros and the Surigao Fianchetto Checkmates, while Cordova will face off with the Iriga City Oragons and the Mindoro Tamaraws. — EBV
