Cebuano guard Jerie Pingoy to join PBA Draft
CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano point guard Jerie Pingoy has signified his intent to take part in the 2021 PBA Rookie Draft slated on March 14.
“I want to develop myself as a player since every player in the PBA is very good. That’s what I am willing to do. As long as I could do it, I will do it just to reach for my dreams,” Pingoy said in a report by Philip Matel of ESPN5.
The 26-year-old Pingoy played for one year with the University of Cebu (UC) in high school before seeking greener pastures in Manila with the Far Eastern University (FEU) Baby Tamaraws where he won a championship and two UAAP Juniors MVP awards.
However, Pingoy’s shock transfer to Ateneo sparked the implementation of the UAAP residency rules that sidelined him during his first two years in college.
After one season with the Blue Eagles, the 5-foot-11 playmaker moved to the Adamson University Falcons but was hobbled by foot injury.
Before the pandemic last year, Pingoy saw action with the Karate Kid-CEU Scorpions in the PBA D-League Aspirant’s Cup.
After all what he had gone through, Pingoy hopes to make a brand new start and realize his dreams of making it to the PBA. — EBV
