CEBU, Philippines — He haven’t had any proper run for six weeks.

But the United Kingdom-based Cebuano long distance runner Anwar Satina showed that nothing can’t be achieved if you just put you heart into that you are doing.

The 42-year-old Satina exemplified that character when he recently finished the virtual Athens Marathon 2020, a shining addition to his string of accomplishments during this pandemic-hit running season.

Without training for over a month, Satina turned to his fighting spirit in overcoming a tough challenge he boldy faced three days ago.

“The struggle is real because I had no proper run during the last six weeks but the heart of a runner in me prevailed,” said Satina.

“I nearly gave up but I tried to finish strong, pushing myself to the limit in the last 3 miles as I already clocked in four hours and my goal was to get sub 4:30,” added the radiographer in Liverpool, the birthplace of the ultra famous English rock band The Beatles.

Satina did hit his target albeit by a hairline, traversing a grueling 26.21-mile (42.195km) course of his preference in four hours, 29 minutes, and 12 seconds.

Satina’s latest feat came a month after he completed the virtual 40th Virgin Money London Marathon on October 4 with a personal record time of three hours, 45 minutes, and 27 seconds.

In August, Satina had the time of his when he ran a total of 1,040 kilometers for 65 consecutive days around South Wales in UK to become an official finisher of the The Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee 1000K.

Before the virtual events that is now the new normal in running amidst the global health crisis, Satina saw action in various marathons including in Dublin, Ireland (2014, 2016 and 2017), Berlin (2016), Chicago (2017), and New York (2018). — EBV
