NM Roque triumphs anew in CEPCA’s weekly super blitz

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebuano National Master Merben Roque clinched his second title in the Cebu Executives and Professional Chess Association’s weekly online tournament after topping the Engr. Alex Chua Super Blitz 8.

Roque, a former Shell National Youth Active Chess champion, tallied the highest output of 13.5 points to rule the virtual tilt sponsored by US-based Cepcans Engr. Alex Chua, a nursing administrator at Fidelity Healthcare in Los Angeles , California, and US Candidate Master Engr. Jojo Dondon of Allen, Texas.

Michael Lopez Tala of Albay wound up second with 13.0 points while Grandmaster Joey Antonio (12.5 pts.), Ted Ian Montoyo of Bacolod (11.0 pts), and Allan Pason of Lapu-Lapu City (10.5 pts.) occupied the third to fifth spots.

Sherwin Tiu of Manila and Bryle Arellano of Lapu-Lapu City placed sixth and seventh with 10.0 points each.

On the other hand, Glicerio Pardillo Jr., NM Elwin Retanal and Remegio Galenzoga came out as the top Cebuano finishers.

NM Rogelio Enriquez Jr. and Rosendo Yamyamin emerged as the top Cepcans A, while Nic Cuizon and Dr. Leo Lofranco were the top Cepcans B. Sheila Khan Sepanton took the other special citation as the best female performer.

The other top winners in CEPCA’s weekly contest were Randy Cabuncal and NM Rogelio Enriquez Jr. in the Air Force Day Blitz, and Stephen Rosales in the Prexy Jerry Arena. — EBV
