CEBU, Philippines —  Dance athletes from Labangon and Mabolo stole the show during the second leg of the 1st Cebu City Barangay Grassroots Online Dancesport Competition over the weekend.

Bannered by Shane Barrientos, Labangon carted away a total of 21 medals sliced into four golds, 10 silvers and seven bronzes while Mabolo matched Labangon’s four-gold output.

Barrientos camed up with a golden double in juvenile II girls chachacha and jive. Her teammate Prince Jayvey Pasigna topped the juvenile I boys chachacha and jive, while Keemo Mojica reigned supreme in the juvenile II boys jive.

Pauline Venice Duba produced a double gold for Mabolo via the junior I girls chachacha and jive. Ditto with her teammate Paul Vincent Corpus, who lorded it over the junior II boys chachacha and jive.

On the other hand, Tisa, Talamban, Cogon-Ramos and Minglanilla got two golds each.

Chanice Mendoza minted a pair of gilts for Tisa via the juniors II girls chachacha and jive, Dylan Jacob Esmero was the golden double performer for Talamban in junior I boys chachacha and jive, while John Tonni Fiel Quilaton struck two golds for Cogon-Ramos in youth boys chachacha and jive.

Minglanilla got its twin golds from Krissan Danielle Unabia in the youth girls chachacha and jive.

The rest of the gold medallists were Michaela Mirabueno of Pardo (juvenile I girls chachacha), Johaida Oasan of Tejero (juvenila I girls jive), and Rayle Sagarino of City Central School (juvenila II boys chachacha).

The ground-breaking event, a first in the Philippines and perhaps in Asia, is spearheaded by the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) headed by chairman Edward Hayco in association with the Dancesport Academy of Cebu, and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Launched last July 4, the weekly tilt was participated in by underprivileged athletes that reside in different depressed barangays under lockdown with their parents. It aims to give them hope and positive activity during these rough times.
