CEBU, Philippines — A bunch of Cebuano jins made their presence felt by carting away medals in the 2020 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships staged online recently.

Philippine team member Aidaine Laxa led Cebu’s charge with a silver in the premiere women’s division.

Laxa posted a total of 8.150 points to finish behind her University of Sto.Tomas teammate Jocelyn Ninobla, who earned 8.333 points from the judges to take the gold.

Though the tournament was held online, Laxa said it still felt like an actual competition.

“Same ra man ang feeling. Same ra pud na warm-up ang akong gibuhat nga mura kog nag-actual competition gyud. Same ra pud ang all out sa performance na akong buhaton if actual competition gyud. Ang difference lang kay walay referee ug audience dili ra gyud kaayo ingon ana kakulba,” said Laxa.

In the other divisions, the Toledo Taekwondo Team earned two golds, one silver and two bronzes.

Valerie Odhelle Patalingjug and Maria Avril Nim Rivera bagged golds in the yellow male cadet and yellow female 10-11 age group, respectively. Gianna Arnaiz got the silver in the yellow female 10-11 class.

Lorraine Fernandez and Clarrisa Louise Gallego contributed one bronze each for TTT in the blue belt 9-11 class and brownbelt 9-below category.

StarLava also fared well with Roldjan Client Lebumfacil Ylanan winning silver in the junior brown belt and his teammate Nino Jan Alvin Cabanig bronze in the red  belt 9-11 division.
