PBA honcho Marcial says league will abide by government rules
CEBU, Philippines — PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said they will abide by the rules the government will set to ensure the safety and welfare of everyone in this time of global health crisis.
Marcial made the statement after the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), came up with a proposal that 5-on-5 basketball can only be played when all kinds of community quarantine is lifted in the country.
“Tignan natin kung ano ang sasabihin ng gobyerno,” Marcial said in a report by The Philippine STAR. “Habang wala pa, umaasa pa rin ako na makakalaro tayo this season.”
PSC’s guidelines will definitely have a huge impact on the PBA once approved by the IATF.
After just one game in its Season 45, the league suspended its play last March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This August, the PBA will decide either to stage only one conference or cancel its season for good. EBV
