SPEAK-St. Francis, Lelah Cons. start strong in Ornopia Cup
CEBU, Philippines — Team SPEAK-St. Francis of Danao City and Lelah Construction opened their title campaigns on a bright note in the MS Motosuit-presented 2020 Lou Ornopia Cup Open Basketball Tournament at the Calambua covered court in San Remigio town north of Cebu.
Jay-R Barral led five players in double figures with 19 points as SPEAK-St. Francis downed T&T Slasher, 90-87, while Mike Patalinjug and Alje Mendez stole the show as Lelah Construction bested Therrish Beach Resort of Tabuelan, 78-72.
Jojo Pedrano scored 13 while Cristian Avila, Cyrel Laurito and Kevin Doroy nailed 12 markers underscoring the balanced attack of SPEAK-St. Francis.
Patalinjug, on the other hand, paced Lelah Construction with 20 points followed by Mendez with 19 points. Neon Chavez was the other double-digit scorer for the Lelah squad with 11 points.
The six-week tilt, which is among the highlights of Calambua's annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Vicente Ferrer on April 17-18 offers P20,000 to the champion while the second and third placers will pocket P15,000 and P10,000, respectively.
