CEBU, Philippines — The ARQ Builders/KSB Glass and Kiboy’s Computer Solutions (KCS) trounced their respective rivals to go 2-0 in the Mayor Edgardo C. Labella 1st Charter Cup Basketball Tournament last Wednesday night at the Cebu City Sports Institute gym.

Ferdinand Lusdoc and John Abad each scored 17 to lead five players in double figures as the ARQ Builders used a decisive endgame assault to slam LM Paragsa, 111-98.

Lusdoc also finished with four rebounds and three assists while Abad had two rebounds and three assists for the ARQ Builders, who also got 16 points, seven assists and three rebounds from Jojo Tangkay.

Franklin Nailon added 13 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals while Ronan Isidro tallied 10 markers on top of four rebounds, two assists and two steals for the ARQ Builders, who actually trailed 77-80 after three quarters.

But the ARQ Builders of coach Marvin Caro staged a blistering 34-18 run in the closing minutes of the contest to fluster LMP at the final buzzer.

Like the ARQ Builders, KCS also coasted to its second straight victory with a masterful 83-65 demolition of Fighter 50 Wine.

Ted Saga scattered 16 points, eight rebounds and two assists while Vincent Minguito tossed in 12 points and three rebounds for KCS, which caught Fighter 50 punch drunk after cruising to a hot 21-11 start.

KCS launched its second wave of attack, 30-13, to further rip the game apart with a 27-point advantage at halftime, 51-24, leaving the Wine Makers in complete disarray the rest of the way.

Rino Berame and Harold Cincoflores also figured prominently for KCS. Berame had nine points and 10 rebounds while Cincoflores scored only five but passed away 13 assists laced with three rebounds and two steals.

In the other result, Frangel Omolon dropped 25 points, three assists and one rebound while Jestoni Baclaan banged in 20 points on top of nine rebounds and two assists as ASPA subdued Athalia 1 on 1, 87-76, to barge into the win column.

The week-long tournament is bankrolled by the city government of Cebu under the flagship of Mayor Edgar Labella through the Cebu City Sports Commission headed by chairman Ed Hayco. Games are under the supervision of commissioner Atty. Rey Gealon assisted by CSCC executive director Amilo Lopez and tournament organizer Allen Ceballos. EBV
