CEPCA grand finals on today
CEBU, Philippines — A dozen players will slug it out for top honors in the grand finals of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association’s year-round tournament scheduled today at the residence of CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas in Royale Cebu Estates in Barangay Casili, Consolacion.
National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr. banners the list of contenders in CEPCA’s “Battle of Champions. The head coach of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) chess varsity team is gunning for an unprecedented five straight championship.
Enriquez regularly topped the annual tournament since he dethroned grandslam champion Jimmy Ty Jr. in 2015.
Among those who seek to end Enriquez’s four-year reign are Vince dela Torre, Amado Olea, Rey Flores, Rosendo Yamyamin, Venancio Loyola Jr., Jun Pasion, Ruel Hortelano, Edwin Cablao, Ruel Nuttal, Filemon Kapuno III and Richard Ouano.
Cash prizes are at stake for the winners.
Aside from the competition, the Cepcans will also have their traditional Christmas get-together, election of officers, and induction of new members in the four-in-one event. EBV
