CEBU, Philippines — The 21st season of the Mandaue City Amateur Basketball Association (MACABA) will fire off this Saturday, November 16, at the Ibabao-Estancia gym in Mandaue City.

Before the games, a simple opening ceremony will take place starting off with the parade of athletes at 8 am.

The league, which aims to train and give exposure to budding cagers preparatory for higher meets at the same time instilling in them the values of discipline and sportsmanship, features the elementary boys 12 and 15 Under, secondary boys 15 and 17 Under, secondary girls 17 Under, and Senior HS/College categories.

The tournament has attracted a total of 25 public and private schools from Mandaue, Consolacion and Liloan.

Scattered in different age groups, they will play a single round robin in the elimination, with the top four teams advancing to the crossover semifinals in each category. The winners will clash for the championships in a winner-take-all affair.

All games will be under the supervision of commissioner Eaurelio Eslawan, one of the co-founders of MACABA way back in 1998.

Serving as MACABA Board of Directors are Mandaue City Councilor Malcolm A. Sanchez, PBA great Elmer V. Cabahug, Benjamin D. Tiongzon of DepEd and Kristoffer Dave Cabajes of Mount Olives Christian Academy with Ruben N. Patotoy and Engr. Redentor Rayla as benefactors. EBV
