Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (The Freeman) - October 22, 2019 - 12:00am

CEBU, Philippines — Host Moalboal pulled off a spectacular seven-game sweep to rule cluster 3 of the 2019 Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup over the weekend at the Moalboal Sports Complex.

Moalboal kicked off its campaign with back-to-back wins over Alcantara, 25-10, 25-15, and Malabuyoc, 25-16, 25-13.

After a short rest, Moalboal proceeded with a 25-12, 25-12 thrashing of Alegria before capping off its day with a 25-17, 25-19 spanking of  Dumanjug.

The following day, Moalboal scraped past Badian, 25-23, 25-23 before crushing Ronda, 25-11, 25-19.

Moalboal then overcame a second-set drawback to repulse Barili, 25-16, 19-25, 25-12 and come out of the two-day tilt with a perfect 7-0 record.

Moalboal thus advanced to quarterfinal round together with Badian.

Badian and Dumanjug were actually tied with 5-2 win-loss records but Badian earned ticket to the next stage of this Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA)-organized event by virtue of a higher tie-breaker.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for Dumanjug as it edged Badian in a three-set thriller, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21. during their match.

However, things got complicated for Dumanjug when it bowed to Malabuyoc, 26-24, 25-21, 17-25 and on the other hand Badian prevailed over Alcantara, 25-13, 25-20 in its last assignment.
