Warriors vie for solo second spot

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors train their sights on the solo second spot as they go up against the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

If victorious, the Warriors will overtake the three-time defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers in the seniors division leaderboard. They are currently tied with 6-3 records.

The Jaguars, on the other hand, are at the tailend of the standings with only two wins to show in nine matches.

Before the Warriors and the Jaguars collide at 6:45 p.m., their younger counterparts will mix it up in the 5:15 p.m. curtain raiser.

On top of the Baby Jaguars’ mind is to bolster their semifinal chances. After a woeful 0-4 start, they stayed in contention after racking the three consecutive wins.

Like the Baby Jaguars, the Baby Warriors also carry a 3-4 slate. Both are in a do-or-die situation each game considering that they are joint seventh and eighth spots in the juniors division.
