GUV Cup Volleyball: Dalaguete rules cluster 2

CEBU, Philippines —  Host Dalaguete dominated the cluster 2 battle of the Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup at the Dalaguete Sports Complex over the weekend.

Dalaguete actually figured in a triple with Oslob and Boljoon with identical 4-1 win-loss records but the former got the top spot by virtue of a superior tiebreak output applying the Asian Volleyball Confederation’s team ranking system.

Dalaguete opened its bid with a 25-13, 25-4 victory against Boljoon but faltered at the hands of Alcoy, 18-25, 21-25.

Dalaguete, however, bounced back with aplomb to outlast Oslob, 25-17, 25-21, Ginatilan, 25-4, 25-8 and Santander, 25-10, 25-20.

Oslob, on the other hand, bested Ginatilan, 25-18, 25-19 then downed Santander, 25-19, 25-21.               

The following day, Oslob overpowered Alcoy, 25-14,25-23 and ended its day with a 25-18, 25-17 drubbing of Boljoon.

Alcoy won against Dalaguete, but bowed to Oslob, 25-14, 25-23.

Alcoy also won its three other games including a three-set thriller against Santander, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16.

After Dalaguete, action in this Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA)-organized tournament shifts to Moalboal this weekend for the cluster 3 elimination.
