Lancers eye solo second spot in clash vs Jaguars
CEBU, Philippines — The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers target the solo second spot as they collide with the skidding University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.
Coming off a 105-65 blowout of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, the Lancers currently hold a 2-1 win-loss record, just a full game behind the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors.
A victory over the Jaguars in their 6:45 p.m. encounter will vault the Lancers past the 3-2 Warriors at second place in the seniors division standings temporarily dominated by the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras with an immaculate 3-0 slate.
The Jaguars, on the other hand, hope to end their two-game slump but they face a tall order against the three-time defending champions Lancers.
In the 5:15 p.m. opener, the pace-setting University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters will try to stretch their unbeaten streak to four games when they take on the listless Baby Jaguars.
Though unscathed, the Baby Webmasters have something to ponder upon because after trouncing the UV Baby Lancers and the USC Baby Warriors by an average winning margin of 32.0 points, they were pushed to the limit before escaping past the CIT-U Baby Wildcats, 65-60.
The UC bantams must also be extra careful this time as they tackle the Baby Jaguars, who are itching to end their two-game slide. (FREEMAN)
