Spartans down Lex Idols to claim IBP cage crown
CEBU, Philippines — The Spartans went on a scoring rampage in the middle quarters to trounce the 1Cebu Lex Idols, 87-72, in their sudden-death final match and clinch the championship of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-Cebu Basketball League 2019 First Conference over the weekend at the Capitol Parish gym along Escario Street, Cebu City.
The Spartans found the Lex Idols a tough customer to handle at first but as soon as their picked up their offensive rhythm in the second period, there’s no stopping them from ripping the game apart.
Ahead by just a matchstick after the first 10 minutes of play, 17-16, the Spartans staged a 22-16 rally to carve out a 39-32 advantage at halftime.
The Spartans carried on their relentless attack in the third stanza where they outpointed the Lex Idols, 24-13, to blow up their lead to 18 points, 63-45, heading into the final 10-minute zone of the contest.
It was cruise control for the Spartans the rest of the way.
Charles Divinagracia topscored with 23 points, even as three other Spartans also cracked double figures.
Nate Garcia scored 19, Rememtor Regis nailed 15 markers while Oliver Moeller finished with 10 points underscoring the Spartans’ balanced attack.
Fermin Pepito bulldozed his way to 25 points, while Edwin Estorgio had 16 points in a losing effort for the Lex Idols. (FREEMAN)
