Maiden season of South Dreamers league unwraps this weekend

CEBU, Philippines — A total of 30 teams will vie for hardcourt supremacy in the maiden season of the South Dreamers Basketball League set to kick off this Saturday, September 21, at the Vista Grande gym in Brgy. Bulacao, Talisay City.

The Under 18 category drew 14 squads, while the Under 16 age group has 16 entries.

The contenders in the U18 are Thumbs Up, Minglanilla Ballers 1 and 2, RnT, Toledo City, Rizbros, Benhur D`Rabens, Ankle Breakers, University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Balamban Campus, Green Rose, and Mingla Archangels.

Slugging it out for top honors in U16 are San Roque, Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT), RnT, Mingla Archangels, Hoopbreakers, Minglanilla Ballers A, B and C, Rizbros, USJ-R Basak Campus, Mary Help of Christian School, Monterey Lions, Thumbs Up 1 and 2, Don Bosco, Biasong, and Cansojong.

They will be divided into two brackets, with the top two teams per bracket advancing to the crossover semifinals. The winners will then fight it out for the championship in a sudden-death duel.

As enshrined in their motto “Chase Your Dreams”, the South Dreamers league is formed by coach Dennis Lee Pacquiao, Luzette Degala Pritscher and Genesis Franco to give the young aspiring cagers an avenue to further harness their hoop skills and help them achieve their goals in life one day down the road. — EBV
