Candulawan, Maghaway win at last in Talisay Mayor’s Cup

CEBU, Philippines — Candulawan and Maghaway barged into the win column in contrasting fashion in the seniors division of the 2019 Talisay City Mayor’s Cup Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament at the Talisay City Sports Complex.

Rito Macatunog unloaded 28 points while Reymond Tacoloy added 20 as Candulawan blasted Manipis, 90-79, to end their two-game jinx.

Joseph Abendan and Jerwin Mangubat came through with 14 markers each for Candulawan, which pummeled Manipis in the final half, 54-37, to pocket their break-through victory.

While Candulawan rattled Manipis, Maghaway literally had to pass through the wringer before fending off Jaclupan via a 98-96 thriller.

Robert Labrador, Renbert Cabatas, and Kevin Tecson combined for a huge 78 points for Maghaway, which finally snaped out of its three-game slump.

Russel Rivera was the other double-digit scorer for Maghaway.

In the juniors division, Ken Camangga tallied 27 points and James Labrador scored 21 as Lawaan 1 spanked Camp 4, 88-82, to even their record to 2-2 while Ivan de la Rita and Daniel Madayan connived for 48 points as Linao bested Manipis, 90-84, for their first win in three starts. (FREEMAN)
