SHS-Ateneo booters start strong
CEBU, Philippines — Defending champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu booters started their title retention bid with a thrilling 1-0 victory over archrival Don Bosco Technological College in the secondary division of the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Schools Foundation Inc. football tournament yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Philip Paglinawan became SHS-Ateneo’s savior after he sank his goal with five minutes down the game.
The Bosconians tried their best to tie the game, but SHS-Ateneo booters tightened their defense until the end to secure their win.
“This is just the first game of the tournament. We won’t be complacent. The players still need to get their top form, but I am happy that we got the win,” said SHS-AdC head coach Oliver Colina.
Earlier, the University of San Jose-Recoletos picked up its second straight victory at the expense of University of San Carlos-BED, 2-1.
Dustin Ramirez sizzled with two goals via the ninth and 32nd minute while USC-BED scored on the 51st through the effort of Louie Arreglo.
USJ-R kept the driver’s seat while SHS-AdC trailed. USC-BED and DBTC both have one draw and a loss.
