CEBU, Philippines — The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) and University of the Visayas (UV) booters went off to a good start in their respective divisions to begin the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.,(CESAFI) football tournament yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The Josenians pummeled Sisters of Mary School-Boystown, 7-1, to get the early lead in the secondary division.

Dustin Ramirez started USJ-R’s onslaught with a goal in the 16th mark while teammate James Villarin connected with another goal at the 27th.

Ramirez sank his second goal at the 32nd, while Christian Agot made it 4-0 for USJ-R at the 37th.

While it was an easy win for USJ-R, another title contender in Don Bosco Technological College figured in a scoreless draw against University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department (BED).

Meanwhile, UV booters proved that they are serious in their mission of returning to the finals after a 2-1 victory over University of Cebu, 2-1, in the collegiate division.

Eugene Vicente led UV, the last year’s runner-up, with two goals.

After both squads went scoreless at the half, Vicente sizzled as he connected his shots at the 51st and 89th mark. (FREEMAN)
