Raptors, Wolves down foes in Elite hoop

CEBU, Philippines —  The Raptors and the Wolves passed through different roads before edging separate foes in the Elite Basketball Club Cebu Season 15 powered by Tough Gear Sportswear at the Visayan Glass gym in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Samsam Gullas and Reynold Jimenez connived for 45 points as the Raptors easily hammered the Scorpions, 91-71, while the Wolves overcame a lackluster first-half show to shoot down the Hawks by a close 70-66 decision.

Gullas, the mayor of Talisay City, also had five assists, four rebounds, one steal and one block to emerge as best player of the game.

Jonas Panerio chipped in 17 markers and Adrian Monteclar added 14 for the Raptors, who was in complete command of the match after racing to a hot 25-6 start on the way to even their record to 3-3 in a tie with the Hawks.

Paul Torrecampo tallied 21 points and Germaine Guarisma and Archie Dungog had 37 combined points but their efforts proved futile as the Scorpions suffered their fifth loss against only one win.

On the other hand, Ervin Lopina scored 23 and Ervin Badrina tossed in 19 points for the Wolves, who trailed by 13 points at halftime, 24-37.

But the Wolves came alive in the third quarter where they launched a tide-turning 20-9 counter-attack. They then outpointed the Hawks in the final period, 26-20, to complete their huge turnaround.

Lopena also pulled down 20 rebounds laced with three assists and two steals to bag the player of the game honors. The Wolves now hold a 2-4 win-loss mark. — EBV
