Jaguars seek repeat vs Webmasters

CEBU, Philippines — The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars will try to reaffirm their dominance over the Joemang’s Surplus-University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters as they clash anew in the second round of elimination in the seniors division of the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Partner’s Cup at the Cebu Coliseum today.

After being greeted by two consecutive defeats at the start of the tournament, the Jaguars of coach Leode Garcia ended their slump in style via an 82-79 stunner over the then undefeated Webmasters last June 18.

Just two nights ago, the Jaguars closed their first round campaign with a vengeful 72-67 victory over the Tough Gear/Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats to improve their record to 2-5.

The Jaguars now target their first back-to-back wins when they take on the Webmasters at 7 pm.

Unlike the Jaguars, the Webmasters are on a downward spiral, losing three games in a row after a rousing 3-0 start that saw them in a three-way tie with the Cebu Landmasters-University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the standings.

In the first game under the juniors division scheduled at 5:30 pm, the Baby Jaguars aim to extend their hot streak to five games when they battle the Cebu Landmasters/Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles.

The Baby Jaguars currently stand at second place in the leaderboard with a 5-1 win-loss card behind the 7-0 ARQ Builders-University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers while the Magis Eagles are at fourth spot with a 4-2 slate. (FREEMAN)
