Second monthly qualifying of Times Square chessfest set April 28
CEBU, Philippines — The second monthly qualifying of the year-round Times Square Talamban Chess Tournament will take place this Sunday, April 28.
The 7-round Swiss system competition features two age groups, the Under 10 and Under 16.
Cash prizes will be given away to the winners. The top three finishers will receive P1,000, P700 and P500, respectively, in the Under 10, and P1,500, P1,000, and P800 in the Under 16 category.
A special prize of P400 will be handed out to the best eight-year-old and under player and P500 for the best Under 12 performer.
Aside from the medals and cash bounty, the champions will also advance to the grand finals in March 2020.
Entry fee is pegged at P200 for the Under 10 and P250 for the Under 16. Those who are interested to join have only until April 26 to enlist.
