CEBU, Philippines — The Cheetahs suffered a huge endgame collapse but recovered in time to squeeze out a 73-69 win over the gritty Hawks in the Elite Basketball Club Cebu Season 14 powered by Tough Gear Sportwear at the Visayas Glass gym in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Chito Solis led four players in double-figures with 23 points as the Cheetahs earned a share of lead with the Tigers and Rams with identical 3-1 win-loss records.

John Rodrigo finished with 19 points while Michael Tan and Bryan Gumampong connived for 23 points for the Cheetahs, who folded up after taking 55-41 lead at the end of the third period but quelled a spirited endgame resistance by the Hawks to escape with a four-point victory.

Ivan Mendoza, Chambelene Aldave and James Truz combined for a total of 43 points but their efforts went for naught as the Hawks crashed to their third loss in four starts.

In other games, Jarred Nacasabog erupted for 37 points and Mark Anthony Ynoc banged in 24 markers as the Eagles decimated the listless Stallions, 139-94, while Ian Ortega sizzled with 21 points as the Sharks swallowed the Panthers, 71-57.

The Eagles and the Sharks are currently in a five-way logjam with the Lions, Panthers and Wolves with similar 2-2 records, while the Stallions further wallowed down the cellar without a win in four games.  - EBV
