CEBU, Philippines — University of Cebu lifters showed their might as they dominated the inaugural Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., (CESAFI) weightlifting tournament the other night at the Cebu City Sports Center.

UC collected eight gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

The 20-year-old Senior high school student Elreen Ando led UC’s charge with a record-breaking performance in the clean and jerk under the 64-kilograms class.

Ando opened her bid with a 90-kilograms best lift in the snatch then posted 110-kilograms on her third attempt in the clean and jerk.

Having cleared all three-attempts, Ando was allowed to make a record-breaking attempt where she successfully lifted 117-kilograms in the clean and jerk.

Unfortunately, Ando’s effort could not be acknowledged as a national record since the event is not sanctioned by the Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas.

Four other UC female bets also dominated their class with RJ Polan winning the 45 kgs.division over teammate Kicely Lobite with 105-kilograms total as against 70 of the latter.

Mary Clair Saga, for her part, topped the 49 kgs.class with 100-kilograms total while Nina Abigail Patalinghug reigned in the 59-kgs.division with 125-kgs.total.
