Wolves stun Lions in Elite caging

CEBU, Philippines — Merbien Dedace and Angelo Delcampo stole the show as the Wolves stunned the defending champion Lions, 86-71, at the start of the Elite Basketball Club Cebu Season 14 powered by Tough Gear Sportswear at the Visayan Glass gym in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Dedace dropped 23 points and Delcampo finished with 16 points in the Wolves’ wire-to-wire victory.

The Wolves were in full control after racing to a hot 23-12 start.

On top by 13 at halftime, 40-27, the Wolves got even fiercer on the way to blow up their lead to a 20-point bubble after three quarters, 66-46, leaving the Lions toothless and powerless the rest of the way.

Jon Chua topscored for the Lions with 26 points while Renato Abing and Rob Abayon connived for 21 points in a losing effort.

In the other game, Carl Valencia fired 17 points and Neil Buot added 14 markers as the Panthers shoot down the Hawks, 60-49, to open their title campaign on a bright note.

The Panthers were firmly in control from the get go and and never looked back after posting a 36-29 edge heading into the final 10-minute zone of the contest.

Axel Rabaya had 15 points and Jojoe Lanojan scored 10 in the Hawks’ losing cause.
