2019 CVIRAA meet Cebu City nails 27th title

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — As expected, Cebu City Niños reigned supreme in the 2019 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet, which formally came to a close yesterday at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex.

 

The Niños bagged their 27th straight overall championship in the annual sports conclave among elementary and high school athletes with 78 gold, 60 silver and 76 bronze medals followed by Bohol with 46 gold, 64 silver and 58 bronze medals, while Lapu-Lapu City settled for third with 44-22-27 medal tally.

Rounding up the top 10 list were Tagbilaran City (30-17-21), Mandaue City (20-44-37), Danao City (19-22-21), Bayawan(12-7-9), Negros Oriental(11-17-24), Naga(8-6-12), Talisay City (5-4-10), Bogo City (4-3-4), Toledo City (3-5-8), Bais(1-2-4), Guinhulngan(1-1-7),  Siquijor(1-2-2), Carcar(0-2-1) and Tanjay with one silver and three bronzes.

The final golds of Cebu City came from its taekwondo jins, who harvested six gilts. They were Royda Jane Ranile, Wendil Jay Rama,  Maria Martina Dela Victoria, Princess Maegan Parba,  Frank Mark Escuardo and Clint Torrence Morales.

TCC jins also got a silver through Julia Chazel Ybarra and a bronze medals from Shenli Lou Belandres and Arwen Sorosoc.

TCC girls softball team claimed the gold in the secondary event, while Leslie Cambongan and Lindy Marie Darlo had a 1-2 finish in the table tennis action. Aaron Keife Charles Senining also handed a gold medal in the standard battle in chess. Senining together with Duane Borgonia also topped the team event.

Cebu City cagers also snared the gold medal with a lopsided 60-39 victory over Cebu Province in the elementary division. Cebu Province bounced back in the girls action with a 76-57 win over Cebu City.

TCC secondary boys basketball team also bowed to Team Mandaue powered by Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 50-66.

Meanwhile,  Bohol’s sepak takraw bets silenced Cebu City, 2-0, in the elementary level, while their secondary team outclassed Negros Oriental, 2-1.
