EVERY POUND COUNTS - Alan 'coach a' Choachuy - The Freeman

The development of sports around the world has gone leaps and bounds. Records have been broken left and right and just recently,  in the Marathon Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge smashed the marathon world record by clocking a time of two hours one minute 39 seconds in Berlin, the 33-year-old took one minute 20 seconds off the previous best, which was set by compatriot Dennis Kimetto when he ran 2:02:57 in Berlin in 2014. In 100 meter sprint, the time is getting faster and faster since it was set in 1912 & 1920 which the fastest time stood at 10.60 seconds and has gone faster 10.0 flat in 1960 to 68, and on the same year it time has gone sub 10 seconds to 9.9 by J. Hines up. Today Usain Bolt holds the record with a time of 9.58 seconds. So far the fastest Filipino in 100 meter sprint is 10.25 by Eric Cray.

There is still a long way to go for Philippine sports to shine against the rest of the world but for now we have to focus on sports that level the playing field like weight lifting, skate board, golf, boxing and other weight category related sports that give us a bigger chance of ever getting that coveted gold medal in the Olympics.

We have to start somewhere and standardizing the science of the training program of our coaches, PE teachers & fitness practitioners is one way of getting there.
