CESAFI playoffs on today

CEBU, Philippines — Four teams shoot for finals berths while the rest battle for survival as the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball playoffs unwraps today at the Cebu Coliseum.

In the collegiate division, the top seeded University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars will go up against the fourth-ranked University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors at 4 p.m., while the two-time defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers will square off against the No.3 qualifier University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters in the main match at 5:30 pm.

The Jaguars and the Lancers enjoy twice-to-beat advantage for emerging as the top two seeds after the double round elimination.   Likewise, the Baby Lancers and the Junior Webmasters are armed with twice-to-beat edge over their respective rivals in the juniors category.

The undefeated Baby Lancers, who are seeking for their first back-to-back championships since they pulled off a historic grandslam from 2003 to 2005, will lock up horns with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers in the 1 p.m. curtain-raiser, while the Junior Webmasters will mix it up with the Baby Jaguars at 2:30 pm.

Should there be knockout games, it will be played on October 22 and October 23 for high school and college, respectively. — EBV
