CEBU, Philippines —  Defending men’s champion Southwestern University-Phinma opened its title retention bid with a victory over University of San Carlos in the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) volleyball tournament yesterday at the USC gymnasium.

SWU spikers showed that they are serious in protecting their throne as they subdued USC, 25-23, 25-14, 20-25, 25-23.

SWU will try to grab the early lead in the standing when it goes up against University of Cebu on September 30 at its own turf.

Just like their men’s counterpart, the SWU boys also won their first match in the preliminary rounds at the expense of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, 25-23, 25-22.
