USC, ANS start strong in SHS-Ateneo football

CEBU, Philippines —  The University of San Carlos-BED and Abellana National School-Pomeroy successfully marched into the quarterfinal round of the 3rd Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Football Invitational yesterday at SHS-Ateneo’s Fr. Julian Hernando pitch in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

USC-BED scored a thrilling victory over Sisters of Mary School-Boystown, 1-0, in the Group A, while ANS-Pomeroy outlasted Giuseppe FC, 2-1, in Group C.

Visiting teams also made it to the quarters with Sagay FC pummeling SMS-Boystown, 4-0, while Rosevale FC of Cagayan De Oro City dispatched Giuseppe FC, 3-0.

Host team SHS-Ateneo dumped rival Don Bosco Technology College-Magone, 3-0, in their Group B battle.

Meanwhile, DBTC-Savio and Don Bosco Boys Home fought to a scoreless draw in Group D.

The four survivors will proceed to the crossover semifinals today. The last two teams standing will then fight it out for the championship.
