CEBU, Philippines — Thirteen squads will vie for supremacy in the fifth season of Spring Rain Mission's Cup Inter-Clergy Basketball Tournament which begins on July 17 at the Capitol Parish Gym, Cebu City.

These are the Order of Augustinian Recollect (Padres Recoletos), Manila Archdiocesan and Parochial Schools Association (Manila Clergy), Diocese of Cebu (Cebu Clergy), Rogationist, Diocese of San Carlos (Ubuntu), Diocese of Calbayog (Survivors Clergy Region 8), Diocese of Maasin (Maasin Clergy), St. Camillus (Camillians), Diocese of Kalibo (Pari it Akean), Canossians (Canossians Selection), Diocese of Davao (Davao Gilas), OSA-OAD (Augustinians) and Diocese of Antique (Greenkeepers).

The teams are represented by playing priests from the different dioceses and religious congregations nationwide. More than the game, they are playing for their mission which is to help fund their chosen advocacy.

"We are extending this event because we really want to find philanthropy in sports. This tournament is a very good platform to promote the cause of each team," said CEO and President of Spring Rain Global Consultancy, Inc. Dr. Glenda Antonio in a press conference the other day at the City Sports Club.

Chairman of Advisory Board and Tournament Manager Fr. Victor Gonzaga, OSA, for his part, emphasized the significance of the event and to continue the service even after the tournament.

"As we exercise and practice for our games, let us never forget the bigger agenda of this and i hope and pray that all these things will not just end on July 20 but this is just the beginning of a long journey," said Gonzaga.
