Cebuana skateboarder out to make history in London

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuana extreme sport enthusiast Margielyn Didal will etch her name in stone as the first ever Filipina to represent the country in an international skateboarding competition via the 2018 Skate League Skateboarding in London, England today.

Didal is actually the first Filipino ever to be invited in the SLS and the only Asian seeing action in the event.

All in all, 12 female skaters from around the world were invited by the organizers. Only eight of them will move up to the finals.

Whatever happens in the preliminary round though, Didal already feels accomplished though she also wants to learn some valuable lessons in London as she sets her sights in this year’s Asian Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“This is my first time competing internationally. The event I am competing right now is the biggest skate event in the world ug mao ni akong pinaka-grabi na achievement sa akong kinabuhi. Wala ko ga-expect nga akoy first Filipina skater nga mag-isa sa Philippine flag sa London tungod sa skates,” Didal blurted out.

Didal, a resident of Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, has no regrets stopping from school at the moment as she is starting to reap the fruits of her labor.

The impressive performances she made in all events she joined in and the full support of her sponsors Numeric Asia and 8five2 skateboards paved the way for her to be noticed abroad.

Didal is one of the only three national team members for skateboarding and hopes that her participation in London will inspire more Cebuanos to try ther sport.

She also hopes that this will inspire the local government of Cebu to put up its own public stake park of international standards.

“I will make the Philippines proud," assured Didal.
