CEPCA age-group May elims set today

CEBU, Philippines — The May edition of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) age-group montly qualifying tournament will take place today at J Center Mall along A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City.

Game time starts at 12:30 p.m.

The categories to be contested in the 7-round Swiss system competition features the 20, 16 and 12-under categories.

The champion in the 20-under will pocket P1,500, while the second to fourth placers will receive P1,000, P600 and P400, respectively.

On the other hand, the top four finishers in the 16 and 12-under will take home P1,000, P700, P500 and P300.

Aside from the cash prizes, the champion in each category will advance to the grand finals next year.

Those who already advanced are Christian Pondoyo and Adrian Basilgo (U20), Arje Villarin and Aldritz Pondoyo (U16), and Aaron Resma and Jervy Villarin (U12).

Registration fee is pegged at P150 for U12 and U16 and P200 for U20.

The tournament, which started last March, is a monthly undertaking of CEPCA under the leadership of Engr. Jerry Marats in partnership with J Centre Mall. It aims to train, develop and discover new talents in Cebu chess community.—EBV
